Rigging Requires a Team
What Is Rigging?
Rigging is the process of using lifting equipment to secure materials. In some cases, the materials to be moved are pieces of equipment. In others, it can involve various massive objects, such as small buildings or bridges. Rigging is often used on construction sites.
Of What Is Rigging Composed?
The load movers, or riggers, are the workers on the ground. They secure the load to move it from point A to point B. A trucking crew is called in when a large load needs to be hauled a great distance. Say for example, a house needs to be moved to another town. The riggers raise and secure the house on a flat-bed truck.
Once the house is secured for travel, the truckers begin their leg of the journey. They consider the best route to take, since all roads aren't able to handle an oversized load. The truckers configure which passage avoids slender bridges, low overhangs, corners with a shallow turning radius, and a whole slew of other challenges, including zoning regulations. For example, if oversized loads are allowed on the road during certain times of day, and only on specific roads.
The folks on the cranes are the brawn of the riggers. They do the heavy lifting. When there is plenty of space, the cranes are brought to the scene. They are used to load and unload the truck bed, so are used from the start and then again at the destination.
Each of these jobs must be performed with utmost safety. One wrong move and a life could be lost.
